Exercising and Injury Prevention
Have you been wanting to start an exercise routine, but never felt comfortable because of a past injury? Or maybe you simply don’t want to hurt yourself. While it is important to listen to your body, there are also things you can do WHILE working out to help prevent injury.
-Correct Form: Keeping correct form during all aspects of your workout is essential. Especially when your muscles start to fatigue. The more tired we get from a workout, the easier it become for us to slack on our form which makes us much more susceptible to injuries. At Armor Fitness, our Coaches are constantly monitoring form to make sure you stay safe through your entire workout.
-Equipment: Not all equipment is made equally. While treadmills are great in certain cases, they are not ideal when it comes to injury prevention in the knees and low back. The constant jarring motion provided by running on the treadmill can cause wear and tear issues down the road on your joints. Not to mention any pre-existing injury you may have in the knees and back could be amplified by using a treadmill. We use low impact Striders instead of treadmills. These machines replicate the movement of walking/running while eliminating the constant impact on your joints. When you get off of the Strider, you will feel like you got a great cardio workout AND your joints will thank you 20 years from now.
-Rest time between workouts: Don’t subscribe to the misconception that you have to workout 6 times a week to see results. Consistency is key when it comes to your fitness goals. Only able to workout twice a week due to conflicting schedules? That just means you need to get the most out of your workouts! At Armor Fitness, we recommend classes anywhere from 3-5 times a week if possible. We max out at 5 classes per week so you can give your body time to rest to be able to perform all of it’s duties injury free! Whether you workout 1 time or 4 times a week, we have a program for you!
When you join Armor Fitness, you can rest assured that we are putting your health at the forefront. You will feel great 10 minutes after your workout AND 10 years after your workout.
